Learn About Me

Hello! My name is Shane Waltz. I am a Phoenix-based Electrician, Lighting Designer, and freelance theatre technician. I am currently attending Arizona State University with a major in Theatre Design & Production.

My theatre journey started at the beginning of my freshman year of high school and grew from there, jumping into community and professional theatre as soon as I had an opportunity to, which was in November of 2019. Aside from my Senior year of high school when I briefly performed in advanced show choir as well as designed and stage managed, I have been working all over Arizona since. Since then, I have been nominated for the AriZoni awards for my design work and the BroadwayWorld phoenix awards.

My primary areas of design are in theatre, dance, and concerts. My experience is substantially fuller in musicals as I love the scale, but I am flexible.

I completed my high school education at Horizon High School in May of 2022, where I fully indulged my passion for theatre. During my time there, I participated in various activities, including serving as an International Thespian, a mentor, and a tour guide for over three years, and even performing in advanced show choir during my senior year to switch things up a little bit. I was also proud to receive a fine arts seal for my lighting design for our production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Currently, I am a sophomore at Arizona State University, pursuing a degree in Theatre Design & Production with a focus on Lighting Design and Stage Management. I'm excited about my future with the program there, as I know it will be able to broaden my horizons in a way that I haven’t gotten the opportunity to explore yet. I anticipate graduation in May of 2026 and look forward to using my skills and experience to contribute meaningfully to the theatre world.

I feel fortunate to have been a part of some truly exceptional productions, including Theaterworks' Curiouser & Curiouser, A Curiouser Nutcracker, and Curiouser & Curiouser Too. These immersive theatrical experiences were especially meaningful given the challenges of the pandemic and included more than 600 total performances across all three iterations.
